Danny Cotton, 58, of Coalfield joined family and friends in Heaven on Monday, July 23, 2018. He became a coal miner after high school and spent many years underground. It was only after a disabling injury that he left. He spent the majority of his adult life running big equipment for a local construction company, until even that became too difficult.
Danny had a passion for music and guitar, especially classic rock from the 60's and 70's. He always maintained he was born in the wrong decade and had the soul of a hippie.
Although he was very quiet and introverted, he enjoyed being with others and socializing. His cabin was a central spot for friends to gather. He also loved to hunt and fish and spent many hours in the woods and on the water.
For the last several years, he was home, but kept on his toes by his Great-niece, Lakelee Meredith. He took great joy in her bubbly personality and sense of humor. He showed great pride when she would come and ask him to play. He is preceded in death by his father, Clifford Cotton, and one brother, Darrell Cotton.
He leaves behind his mother, Helen, of Coalfield; a sister, Diane (Meredith) and her husband, Mackie; his two sons, Joe and Shane, both of Coalfield; a nephew, Tyler (Meredith) of Coalfield; and many extended family members.
Danny's last request was to be cremated and his ashes spread. As a result, a private family service will be held to carry out his wishes.
