Alma Adams Obituary

 

Alma “Jean” Adams, age 63 of Oak Ridge, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 11, 2018 at Greenfield Senior Living. She was a beloved staff member of Greenfield and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Jean was an avid reader, especially cookbooks, loved to entertain and showcase her southern cooking, enjoyed gardening with an impressive green thumb.  She was an eclectic collector, bargain shopper, hard worker and caregiver to family and friends.  In the early 80’s she was one of the few women working in the coalmining industry and was featured on PM Magazine.  

She was preceded in death by her husband Steve Adams,  parents, E.J. and Bessie Smith;

Sister, Lucy Jeffers;  Grandparents, Cade and Lula Day and James and Bertha Smith;

Nephews, David and Don Lay, Tommy Jeremiah Smith and John Smith

 

She is survived by daughters, Althea Aycock and husband Will of Asheville, NC and Alma Jean Parks, Dalton, GA, 

grandchildren, Ashley Parks, Brittany Gallman, Ty Aycock, Jesse Hickey Jr., Alivia Aycock,

great grandchildren, Noah Gallman, Joseph Parks,

step-son, Tim Adams and wife Jackie and their two children, Jennifer Campbell and husband Rich and their children, Riley, Jacob and Chloe, Kings Mountain, NC and Nick Adams and wife Courtney and their son, Thomas, Charlotte, NC,

step-daughter, Lori Lowe and husband Josh and their son Colby, Oliver Springs, TN

step-daughter, Sandra Cathey and husband George and their children, Tim Cope, Tyler Cathey and Cody Cathey, one grandchild, Emery Cope, Rock Hill, SC

step-son, Tony Adams and son Zack Adams, Kings Mountain,NC

Sisters, Velma Smith of Dalton, GA, Bertha and Leslie R. Lowe, Sr.  of Oliver Springs;

Brothers, E.J. Smith, Jr. and wife Kathy of North Carolina, John Smith of Chattanooga, James Smith and wife Laura of Haymarket, Virginia, and Tommy Smith and wife Beverly of Jellico, TN,

special nieces and great nieces, DeLane Duncan (Cody Brown), Shalie, Jaylen and Kinzy Brown, several other nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

 

 

Special thanks to (niece) Delane Duncan, Jamie Morris, Leslie Bailey and the rest of the staff at Greenfield Senior Center as well as Dr. Thompson and Caris hospice nurses for comforting and caring for Mom during the last nine months.

 

Cremation was chosen. Services will be announced.
