BARBARA CAROL (JOHNSON) KNOWLES

Barbara Carol Knowles went to her eternal home in Heaven at the age of 75, in the early morning hours of Monday, January 6, 2020. She was at home with her family, where she had spent the past several months in hospice care. Carol, as she was called by family and friends, was born October 20, 1944 in Prosser, WA. She was the daughter of Walter B. Johnson (1927-2011) and Barbara M. Johnson (1927-2005), and sister to Susan Kuiken and Stephen (Walter) Johnson.

She grew up on a dairy farm in Sunnyside, WA and graduated from Sunnyside High School. She went to Washington State University in Pullman, WA, where she studied interior decorating. Carol met her husband, Doug, at WSU and they were married on May, 11, 1968. Carol, Doug, and their children lived in Spokane, WA, later moving to Federal Way, WA, and finally moving to Oak Ridge, TN in 1990. Carol retired from the Whirlpool Corporation and enjoyed painting as a hobby for many years. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Oak Ridge, and attended services there when she was physically able. She enjoyed the friendships, ministry, and fellowship at Grace Lutheran, which offered her immeasurable support and comfort over the years.

She is preceded in death by her parents Walter and Barbara Johnson, her brother Stephen (Walter) Johnson, her husband Douglas, and her son-in-law Ronnie Wagoner. Surviving family members who will continue to cherish memories of her include: her daughter Jennie Marie Wagoner, her son Jason Scott Knowles with daughter-in-law Katherine Elizabeth Bentley Knowles, and grandchildren Alessandra Knowles, Christina Knowles, Jacob Bentley, James Wagoner (Jammer), and Roni Lynn Wagoner.

The family will hold a memorial service for Carol at Grace Lutheran Church in Oak Ridge, TN on Saturday, February 8, 2020 with visitation beginning at 1pm and service at 2pm. The internment will immediately follow at the Grace Lutheran Memorial Garden.
