DAVID ANTHONY STEPHENS

David Anthony Stephens, age 74, passed away at home March 28, 2021 where he was able to spend his last days with family and friends.  David was born November 9, 1946 to Marjorie M and John E. Stephens.  He grew up in Lenoir City where he stayed until college and the call from the Army came.  After carrying out his duty to serve his country, he and some of his friends traveled around Europe for 6 months, following a Matador in a VW bus named “The American Woman” (what a better way to enjoy life)!  Upon returning home he graduated from MTSU with degrees in Agriculture and business.

Dave’s work here is done.  He received a call from God with whom he had a lifelong relationship, that he could not refuse, for his last trip from which he will not be returning.  He is now reunited with family and friends that he has not seen in a long time.  His last journey takes him to a wonderful place where he will no longer be suffering but be socializing, where laughter and love is guaranteed.

Adored daughter, Jessica M. Stephens, his pride and joy grandson, Mason, son in-law, Brandon

(in which he especially looked forward to their visits, cherishing every moment).

Cherished sister, Sharon and his Reverend brother, John and his Esteemed brother, Allen Stephens, further survived by nieces, nephews, and friends (who he considered to be family, Proverbs 18:24).

Dave loved spending time with his friends and family, it didn’t matter if they were traveling, out on the water, sitting out on the deck with a fire, smoking a cigar, enjoying a drink or watching UT football.  Dave was the ultimate host with whom one could always count on to share his sardines and crackers, his home brewed (beer), his prized culinary skills (making Jiffy corn muffins), his vast wisdom (regarding life and history) and his love of making others laugh.

It would be remised of me to not mention his lifelong love affair with naps in which NOTHING ever got in the way (not even army could stop him).

He was blessed for he had a firm understanding of what was important – the simplicity of living and sharing life with those you love.  He told his family and friends that he was happier and more content and at peace in the past few years than he had ever been!  Until we are together again… Godspeed Captain Dave of the high seas!

In lieu of flowers please give to The Second Harvest of Knoxville or the food pantry at Grace Baptist Church of Knoxville where he was a member.
