David Edmonds Obituary

David Edmonds, 84, of Oliver Springs, TN, passed away on 22 April 2021 at Methodist Medical Center.

To anyone who met David Edmonds they were likely greeted with a “Hello Darlin,” followed by a hug that came with a slight smack to the back. He probably offered to feed you or asked if he could get you anything. He likely stood up out of his chair and insisted you take it.

David Edmonds lived a life of hard work and devout service, that was only outshined by his capacity of love for his family. He built cabinets, houses, and hospitals. He planted gardens. He hunted and walked through the woods and mountains. He dropped off groceries at the homes of people he knew needed them, failed to collect rent from tenants who fell on hard times, and if you accused him of doing something kind or good, he’d jokingly say, “shame on you for thirty minutes.”

David loved to spend time outdoors with his bird dogs or horses, or just on a walk in nature. He enjoyed growing tomatoes in his garden and could eat as many as he could pick. He would burst into a little song or dance if the mood hit him, could often be caught watching old Westerns, and loved nothing more than being surrounded by his family for any occasion.

Survived by his children: Darlene (Buster) Cummings, of Powell; David Wayne Edmonds of Oliver Springs; Daniel (Alisa) Edmonds of Sioux Falls, SD.

By his grandchildren: Kristen Cummings-Fredieu of Knoxville; Kevin Cummings of Louisville, KY; Erika Edmonds of Knoxville; and Anna and Gabe Grindall of Sioux Falls, SD.

His brother, Rev. Bill Edmonds (Imogene)

His sister, Betty Thornton

And many nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.

Preceded in death by his beloved wife Phyllis Edmonds; his mother and father George and Lydia; and brother, Samuel, and sisters, Mary and Alberta.
