Jon Michel Obituary

Jon Paul Michel, 56, of Knoxville, TN entered his eternal home, on Friday, December 13, 2019 after a courageous 5-year battle with cancer.

Jon was born on January 25, 1963 in Sidney, New York. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Patricia Michel; Doris Gibbons (a beloved aunt/mentor); Marie Michel (grandmother); and Waymon F. Singleton (father-in-law).

Jon is survived by his wife of 17 years Julie (Singleton) Michel; children Heather Gunn (Will), Ben Michel, Ashley Singleton, and Sara Michel; siblings Guy Michel (Dawn), Todd Michel (Susan) and Annie Sumner (Andy); grandson Liam A. Gunn; fourteen nieces/nephews; five great nieces/nephews; and several treasured shipmates and friends.

Jon married Julie, his soulmate, on March 02, 2002. Prior to this marriage, Jon proudly served for 18 years in the U.S. Navy as a Nuclear Reactor Operator in Submarines and at retirement, his rank was Senior Chief Petty Officer.

After retirement, Jon worked in steel and foundry facilities across the US and settled in Knoxville in 2006.  Jon and Julie formed Jon Michel’s Handyman Services in 2013, enabling them to live/work together in the community they love.

Jon was an intelligent craftsman, and a talented musician.  He was quick-witted with a sharp sense of humor.  In addition to his devotion to family, Jon LOVED God, motorcycling, modeling, reading, working with his hands, and ice cream.

A Celebration of Jon’s life will be held Saturday, December 21, 2019 at West Emory Presbyterian Church on Westland Drive in West Knoxville where Jon was a member and an Elder.  Julie, his children, and his siblings will receive friends on Saturday, from 1:00 – 3:00 pm at the church.  The service will begin at 3:00 pm and will be followed by a Reception in the Fellowship Hall. Nursery will be provided for first grade and under.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to West Emory Presbyterian Church – Attn: Benevolence Fund/Jon Michel or The American Cancer Society.

“Blessings to each and every one of our prayer warriors. Stay safe this holiday season and enjoy your family.  Tell them you love them often.  SHOW them even more often!” Jon, The G.O.A.T. Locker, November 25, 2019.
