Mary Etta Jackson Obituary
Mary Etta Butler Jackson, age 97, of Coalfield, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 17, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on January 3, 1928, Mary lived a long and beautiful life, rooted deeply in faith, family, and kindness.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Isaac Jackson; her sons, Gary and Dale Jackson; her parents, Earl and Stella Adcock Butler; and her siblings, Savannah Butler, Artie Clowers, Joy Washburn, Montana Washburn, Bob Butler, Hesley Butler, Audrey Butler, Sterling Butler and Earl Roy Butler.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Wendy Washburn and husband Seth; her great-grandchildren, Bailey Keen and Gram Washburn, of Knoxville; and a wide circle of cherished nieces, nephews, dear friends, and her church family.
A devoted lifelong member of the Coalfield Seventh Day Adventist Church, Mary’s faith was not just a part of her life — it was the foundation of it. Each Sabbath morning you could find her in her favorite pew, her well-loved Bible in hand, its pages worn and underlined from years of study. Whether she was offering her famous vegetarian casserole at church potlucks, teaching others about God’s promises, or simply sharing her quiet strength, Mary’s kindness and devotion shined like a steady light. Her deep trust in God’s love never wavered, and her spirit leaves an enduring imprint on the lives she touched.
Outside of her faith, Mary had a love for simple joys. Long before it was trendy, she believed in healthy, wholesome eating, and her garden was her sanctuary — a place where she nurtured both vegetables and flowers. She was also a skilled quilter, crafting each stitch by hand and made for someone she cherished. Her talent was recognized with numerous awards over the years.
Mary’s life was one of purpose, generosity, and unwavering faith. She leaves behind a rich legacy of love and strength.
Family and friends are invited to gather in her memory on Wednesday, April 23rd with visitation from 12-1:00. The Funeral service will at 1:00 with Pastor Lonnie Cook officiating.
Interment will follow in Estes Cemetery, Coalfield.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Seventh-Day Adventist Church food bank, 125 Guy Jones Rd., Oliver Springs, Tn 37840.
