William Edward Gebauer Obituary

Bill finished his earthly journey at his home in Coalfield on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, stepping into eternal glory with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

He was born in Poygan, Wisconsin on October 20, 1940 to Henry and Francis Gebauer. Life on their dairy farm taught him responsibility and a hard work ethic. He later enlisted with the U.S. Army and was stationed at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. Visits to Tennessee with a fellow soldier friend led to a chance meeting with Jonell who become the love of his life. They shared a happy marriage of 61 years.

Bill was retired from Y-12 in Oak Ridge. He enjoyed gardening and spending time at home. He was a devoted husband to Jonell and a devoted father to his son Brian. A special and favorite activity was deer hunting with Brian. Bill was a fan of both the Green Bay Packers and the Tennessee Vols. His display of outdoor Christmas lights and decorations were a delight to the community, especially the children.

Bill had a kind heart and a loving soul. To know him was to love him. He was just that type of a person, and he set a good example for us to follow. He was a man of faith and loved his church, Mount Carmel Cumberland Presbyterian and his church family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Francis Gebauer; brother Bud Gebauer; and sister Marion Sternitske.

He is survived by his wife Jonell Wormsley Gebauer; son Brian Edward Gebauer; sister Glorianna Zimmerman, and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the loving caregivers of Quality Private Duty Care for their compassion and kindness.

Receiving of friends will be from 1-2 pm, Tuesday, May 12, at Mount Carmel Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Coalfield.

A funeral service officiated by Rev. Don Winn and Bro. Derek Harlan will follow with a graveside service and internment at the Estes Cemetery, Coalfield.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill’s memory to Mount Carmel Cumberland Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 304, Oliver Springs 37840.
