Wilma Faye Overton, a cherished mother known for her quick wit and humorous personality went to her heavenly home on April 6, 2025. Born on August 18, 1927, to Sam and Freddie (Hallcox) Wormsley, Wilma enjoyed a long and full life. Before her body gave out, she was an avid gardener who loved to can the fruits of her labor. Her chicken and dumplings and wet coconut cakes will be missed.
Wilma was a life-long resident of Coalfield, TN. She had a strong work ethic and was employed at Union Carbide, Roane Hosiery, and finally retired from Martin Marietta. Wilma was active in Mt. Carmel Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the Coalfield Senior Citizens Center.
Wilma never met a stranger, and loved to make people laugh. She would ask people to guess her age and would cackle when they got it wrong! She was proud that she didn’t look 97 years old. She would leave people with “I’m glad you got to see me”
Wilma is preceded in death by her parents, daughter Donna Gail Smith, brother TJ Wormsley,
Sisters Bonnie Tabb and Elanora Johnson, brothers-in-law Henderson Tabb and Winifred Johnson, son-in-law Robby Stewart and Granddaughter in law Laura (Conlon) Stewart.
Wilma is survived by daughters Teena Stewart and Twanda Overton, Sister Barbara (Don) Byrd, grandchildren David Stewart and Susan (Keith) Ringley, mammaw great to Zach (Bree) Stewart, Dylan Stewart, Lindsey Maston, and great-great grandson Zeke Stewart.
She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family would like to thank Quality Private Duty of Wartburg, her caregivers Sophia, Robyn and Ashley.
She enjoyed her friendships with Mary Ellen Crowe, Norma Reynolds, Mitzi Cupp and her special bond with Mike Graham.
The family will receive friends for Wilma on Wednesday April 9, 2025, from 4:00-5:00 pm at Mt. Carmel Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The funeral service will be led by Rev. Donn Winn and will begin at 5:00 pm with interment to follow in the Estes Cemetery in Coalfield.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Wilma’s memory may make a donation in her name to Mt. Carmel Cumberland Presbyterian Church, or a charity of your choice.
