Larry D. Oliver

Larry D. Oliver passed away on January 1, 2017 after a long illness. Born on November 2, 1954, he was a 1972 graduate of Lyon County High School and a 1976 graduate of the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science. He served as one of the original EMT’s at Lyon Co.Ambulance Service and was a member of Lyon Co. Rescue Squad and Kuttawa Fire Dept. He was a former Coroner of Lyon Co. from 1978-1981 and at that time he was the youngest Coroner of Kentucky. He also served as Deputy Coroner in  Graves and Caldwell Counties. In 1994 he was elected President of the West Kentucky Funeral Director’s Association. In 1999 he moved to the Smoky Mountain area of Tennessee, a place he always loved, where he owned and operated Jackson-Oliver Mortuary and Jackson Funeral Services for several years. While in Tennessee, he served as Deputy Medical Examiner in Roane and Morgan Counties and was a member of the Coalfield Volunteer Fire Dept. He became “famous” for his delicious bar-b-que style and homemade sauce. He would often volunteer his time and bar-b-que skills to support different groups in the community such as the Coalfield Lyon’s Club, the fire dept., church groups, weddings, and others with their fund-raisers and special events He had a “heart of gold,”  He loved being outdoors on his tractor and working on his mini-farm in Coalfield. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Oak Ridge.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents Dow and Millerdene Oliver; an infant sister, Beverly Oliver;

Brother-in-law, Pat Bloomingburg.

 

He is survived by his son, Shannon Oliver and wife, Whitney of Kuttawa, KY;

Daughter, Sheena Snow and husband, Bill of Kuttawa;

Two beloved granddaughters, Gracie and Emmy Richardson;

One sister, Virginia Bloomingburg of Benton, KY;

Two brothers, Edward Oliver and wife, Pat of Plainfield, IN  and Richard Oliver and wife, Donna of Jacksonville, FLA;

His former wife, Rhonda Jackson and her family;

Several nieces, nephews, and cousins;

 

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Chestnut Oak United Methodist Church in Kuttawa, KY with Rev. Chuck Ladd and Rev. Franklin Skaggs officiating.

Visitation will be held from 10:00am until 1:00 pm at the church.
